Orchid is all dressed up and ready to go.
So as a follow up to the Frost Cam I grabbed the camera and headed out for a training run in what, by Alaska standards, is a heat wave. Much easier to use the camera at 20 above, I got a few more photos then Dan at 20 below. Mushing at 15 to 20 above is rare this time of year. Not quite a treat, as I expect my winter to be… well like winter. But I learned a long time ago that when you dance with Mother Nature she leads. And so off into the warm December I went for a nice long run.
The dogs are looking fit and happy, and enjoying the longer runs. Our young dogs, the Rascals, are all grown up and fitting right in. You can hardly tell them from the seasoned raced dogs when they are all running together.
Put the camera down and hook up our tugs – let’s go.
Headed out
Hoar frost on the stunted spruce trees.
Moving along.
Looking out over the valley – you can just see the trail we are headed to on the far hillside.
Tripods are used as trail markers in open areas.
Orchid and ChaseUm in lead, with BedBug and Gremlin in swing.
Snack Time – today it was warm so dogs got nice pieces of frozen salmon for a snack.
Beautiful dramatic sky as day changes to night.
It is a great view; as long as you don’t mind some dog butts.
Very lucky to have such a beautiful place to train our dogs.
Headed home.
